GPS-TWO First Flight Test, TCC 08/20/2011 Phenomenal success!!!

We test flew an Intimidator-5 on CTI M1520 Blue Streak. A very nice motor despite the ***s status. The rocket weighed about 40 lbs loaded, and included:

– Real Flight Systems GPS-TWO Telemetry module
– G-Wiz HCX
– G-Wix LCX
– 120 Db Siren

Flight data from the GPS log is attached. I used a T10 32GB SD-Card
and collected about twice as much data as what’s attached 🙂 Here’s the summary:

Launch site was ~211 ft AGL
Apogee was 12,915 MSL, 12,704 AGL

All the systems worked (we logged 120F on the pad at take-off, 85F at
10,000 ‘AGL). Lost telemetry (RF) signal at 400’, drove around with Ben and picked it up again in the corn field). We later found that we lost LOS with Jack’s trailer blocking the way to the field. We got the area coordinated and head out there and recovered the rocket perfectly, we also recovered signal within 4 miles of the site.

We activated the Siren remotely!!!We also used Handheld GPS transmitted from the base-station to find the location of the bird.

Jimmy had already shown up and seen the rocket land in the same area!!! We turned off the Siren by remote when Jimmy recovered the rocket. It was awesome!

Special thanks to Jack, Ben, and Jimmy! First flight was a raging success!
